This week’s objectives

  1. Review last week’s contents.
  2. Review last week’s homework.
  3. Test out the virtual classroom capability.
  4. Practice on the topic fraction.

Background

  • Main difference happened this week is the pandemic became worse, virtual session is advised for tutoring.
  • Realised the student’s basic theory is weak, he doesn’t quite understand how fraction works and how to apply the formula.

Procedure

  1. Researched about how to carry online session.
  2. Looked for soft-copy of materials, found it in the WhatsAPP group and shared before session.
  3. Reviewed the homework.
  4. Went through how to do fraction transformation.
    1. Carried some fraction calculation on plus and minus.

Session

Training session of this week4 and week5 lasts two hours from 8pm - 10pm on Fridays.
Reviewed the student about decimal number, went through fraction related knowledges.

Feedback

During the session, since it is online format, some communication is not as smooth, and the working steps are difficult to discuss or show to student, student was distracted by playing with the APP and his laptop.

Some methods to address the obstacles were asking student to repeat what I said, and read out loud on some formula or theories.

During the session, I learnt something as well:

  • Online session is more difficult than face-to-face because the student is easily distracted.
  • The student copied the answers directly for the homework, he didn’t show any working steps nor he knew how to explain.

To-Do’s

  • Check-in weekly status to the organization
  • Review previous topic on fraction and number and calculation.
  • Try to find past year PLSE Math papers.
  • Study how to better use the online software.
